Inversely proportional messiness

My level of messiness is inversely proportional to the presence of my husband.

The hubs (who I'm just going to give up and finally call the Chief Engineer, because we love Star Trek and he's an engineer, and otherwise I'm just stealing Megyn's moniker for the guy she married)...has gone away on business. And what semblance of organization we had in our home is now well and truly gone.

Oh yes. Those are skis on the couch. New skis. *facepalm*

Well, skis that I ordered long before I blocked ebay and amazon on my computer and paid for with some extra contract work so it didn't affect our bottom line. But still. I will have lots of decluttering to do this week. Argh. The whole point of decluttering was so I could stop spending time decluttering!

Does anyone else's house suddenly turn into a mess when someone leaves?

  1. Firstly, steal away!

Secondly, I have the opposite effect! When The Hubs is away, I tend to actually clean more...but he has to be out of town. When he's just on his normal shift, then no, things are going to be bad, and when he's home, even worse. But get that man out of town, and my house will be tidied up. I think for me it's a way to fill the time I'd otherwise spend sitting next to him as we do separate things, but are yet "spending time together" haha! At least you've got time before C.E. comes home, right?! So there's your saving grace ;)

P.S. LOVE your all color and floors. *swoon*

    1. ha, I wish I could take credit for the colors. Another blogger I met does free designs for folks while she's trying together her portfolio for her interior design license. She suggested the rug and the paint, though we didn't go with her furniture selections. She might be willing to do one for you for free too! http://mnmizestudio.com/2012/01/design-solution-joannas-condo/

  2. Our house is always cleaner when the bf is not around- he is naturally more messy than I am (despite being in the military- apparently he rebels when he is at home- sigh!) and so random stuff tends to appear when he is around. I also think I feel bad about cleaning, because we should be spending quality time together, sitting next to each other but doing seperate things, like Megyn says!

  3. PS I think the point of decluttering is so that you can spend less time decluttering...so as long as you are going in the right direction :) it is much harder to make a mess with less stuff as well, especially when all of the stuff has a home!

    1. absolutely...catch, though, is being disciplined enough to put the stuff in its home. Which I have still not learned in nearly 30 years!

  4. Yep, the house gets messier when someone leaves....me! :) When the boyfriend leaves things stay cleaner, what can I say, I'm the neatfreak (most of the time).

    1. I'm very jealous! I think I'd have a very clean home if I'd just permanently stay away :o)
